Lucky in Love

A very dear friend of mine became engaged last month on the luckiest day of the year: St.Patrick’s Day! The bride and groom both hail from large, fun-loving Irish families and the proposal kicked off what will go down in their history as the greatest St. Patrick’s Day celebration ever! I was honored to have been part of their engagement day party and am beyond excited to help plan their big day in 2013. Being the planner that I am, I have been considering ways to incorporate a tasteful nod to St. Patty’s into their nuptial celebration.

Most holidays come with a very strong brand identity when it comes to colors, foods and feeling. For St. Patrick’s Day, its all about green, clovers, hats, beer and fun! Gone are the days where major holidays act as a road block for planning a wedding or special event. Days like Halloween, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day are some of the first to be picked off the calendar by spirited couples if they happen to fall on a weekend date.

The trick to planning a wedding related to, or falling on a major holiday is figuring out how to pay homage to the day without getting too kitchy. By introducing subtle hits of those “expected” colors, designing a menu that includes some of the traditional holiday fare, and embracing the spirit of the holiday, you are sure to make the day your all yours, while recognizing the things make your particular event date famous!

Here are a few understated ways to incorporate St. Patrick’s Day into your next event
